Sakonnet Greenway, Middletown/Portsmouth RI
Here at OHAC, we value our mental health as much as our physical, and so it is fitting that Tinkle discovered this gem when he would drive home from his own visits to therapy! (No shame, no stigma!)
Starting at the Polo Grounds, the Greenway stretches over 10 miles of trails all the way to Newport Vineyards, passing thru wetlands and skirting the perimeter of Newport’s beautiful golf course. If heading in the opposite direction, you can get to “The Glen” with stunning waterviews and really cool wooded terrain. We will probably do a little of both and get a taste for both! What an amazing use of public access!
Expect about 4-5+ miles of hiking on our standard adventure!
**Adventures are typically held rain or shine.
Terrain: Mostly flat, although some steeper inclines heading towards the Glen. Footing can be very slick on the extensive boardwalks, however!
You need: Proper footwear. Water and a snack. Signed Release Form.
Your Dog needs: Properly fitting harness, water and snacks. Signed Adventure Contract and EITHER – proof of up-to-date shots or OH Veterinary Release Form.
Parking: Street-side.
