DESCRIPTION:This session: \nLittle River Reserve\n\nOne of our cornerstones of OutHounds Adventure and Training Academy’s mission is to be good stewards of the environment. As such\, we have begun to collaborate with our local land trusts\, and we are beyond excited to begin collaborating with the Dartmouth Natural Resource Trust. If you follow us on social media\, you know that we are frequent flyers on DNRT trails\, and we hope you will be too! Come join us twice this month on a beautiful DNRT property. What better way to kick off this collaboration by paying a visit to OHAC inaugural adventure (almost 5 years ago!): Little River Reserve! While the epic suspension bridge has been removed since then\, Little River is still an OHAC favorite. Varied terrain\, challenging footing and beautiful marsh views certainly makes this quite the Adventure! DESCRIPTION:This session: \nThe Bogs\n\nThe Bogs has been a long time favorite destination for the Adventure Club\, and it is even more exciting now that OHAC is collaborating with the Buzzards Bay Coalition! The predominantly flat and open trails are great for the beginning hiker\, yet the beauty can be appreciated by all! Adventure Guide Tim does like to lead the group into the forest trail\, which does boast a mild incline and some tricky footing\, depending on the flood stage of the subsequent swamp. Although\, even if we have to double back or risk the dryness of our socks\, we always have a great time out here. (Check out our pictures from the spring!) This a great trail for just getting yourself (and your dog!) OUT and reconnecting with nature. See what happens when nature takes over. It is truly breathtaking! \n\nSimmons Pond is certainly one of OHAC’s favorite Adventures. We suppose any tenderly cared for oasis that boasts tree cookies\, 30 hidden birdhouses\, trail magic\, history lessons\, and a sense of deep pride in a community’s land trust is worthy of “favorite” designation! Path’s here are wide and welcoming with minimal inclines. Parts of the trail can get not only muddy\, but completely flooded–although this tends to be a Springtime occurrence. DESCRIPTION:This Session: Cornell Farm\nRepeat Adventurers will be familiar with part of this trail\, as DNRT’s Little River Reserve was our inaugural adventure! This time\, however\, we will be beginning our adventure on the other end of the reserve on Trustee’s of the Reservations Cornell Farm. The Farm portion is a predominantly flat trail which can become VERY muddy in the beginning in rain or thaw. We will meander our way thru to the beautiful board walks that allow visitors to pass thru salt marsh. There are moments of uneven footing and sleight inclines. Come join Adventure Club on this Urban Adventure Hike to commemorate his legacy by walking New Bedford’s Black History Trail. Starting at Pier 3 on the New Bedford waterfront\, we will follow the Trail as meticulously curated by the New Bedford Historical Society. DESCRIPTION:This session: \nRidge Hill\n\nRidge Hill will live in OHAC lore for all time as our second ever hike brought quite the adventure! One of the neighborhood cattle made one of their all to frequent trips out of his paddock and down to the Ridge Hill parking lot just as we were shoving off! As we said then\, sometimes you seek adventure and sometimes adventure finds you! \nRidge Hill also happens to be one of Adventure Tadhg’s favorite DNRT trails\, but don’t advertise that too much or else everyone will start going there! Let’s save this gem for the Adventure Club! Path’s here are well cared for by volunteers and offer a little challenge for everyone. There are some steeper inclines and some rocks and roots that make for some tricky footing (especially closer to the reservoir). DESCRIPTION:This session: \nThe Bogs\n\nThe Bogs has been a long time favorite destination for the Adventure Club\, and it is even more exciting now that OHAC is collaborating with the Buzzards Bay Coalition! The predominantly flat and open trails are great for the beginning hiker\, yet the beauty can be appreciated by all! Adventure Guide Tim does like to lead the group into the forest trail\, which does boast a mild incline and some tricky footing\, depending on the flood stage of the subsequent swamp. Although\, even if we have to double back or risk the dryness of our socks\, we always have a great time out here. (Check out our pictures from the spring!) This a great trail for just getting yourself (and your dog!) OUT and reconnecting with nature. SUMMARY:Standard Adventure: Swansea Village Park
DESCRIPTION:This session: \nSwansea Village Park\n\nSVP is an Adventure Club favorite as it provides both natural and man made obstacles for both our 4-legged and 2-legged OutHounds. The Park is frequented by mountain bikers and NEMBA members have built various equipment that gives our four-legged adventure partners opportunities to practice typical Canine Agility skills such as seesaws\, narrow bridges and climbing walls! Mother Nature hasn’t done a bad job either with all of the pudding stone and large outcroppings that gives the adventurous and sure-footed a view of the treetops. As always\, not every obstacle is for everyone and no one is forced to make choices they aren’t comfortable with! However\, even if you aren’t making the minor climbs\, the ground can be slick and root covered. Who knew that all of this was behind the Swansea Library! Expect about 4-5 miles of hiking on our standard adventure!\n\n\n**Adventures are held rain or shine.** \nTerrain: Can be quite rocky and rooted. There opportunities for real Adventuring and Bouldering. We typically enjoy trekking the Pine Barrens trail\, however\, the Bentley Loop and all of its subsidiaries is quickly becoming a favorite as well. This trail boasts varied terrain\, some nice inclines\, and the ability to make the journey anywhere from 3 to 6+ miles! You certainly feel "away from it all" OUT there! We will meet at the Upper College Pond Parking Lot. Blaze orange for both you and your dog is highly encouraged. \n\n**Adventures are typically held rain or shine. For OutHounds Adventure Club regulars\, you know we frequent Swansea Village Park.  Part of the attraction is the epic rock outcroppings and boulders.  Lincoln Woods is like Swansea Village Park’s older brother!  Bigger\, more wild and many more boulders!  There is a pleasant paved loop around a lake\, but in true Adventure Club fashion\, we seek out the trails frequented by mountain bikers and others with a more daring spirit!  While we typically expect about 4-5 miles of hiking on our Standard Adventure\, don’t be too disappointed if it’s closer to three! Your quads won’t know the difference!   \n  \n**Adventures are typically held rain or shine. Please check Facebook\, Instagram and emails for severe weather cancellations.** \nTerrain: Rugged with steep inclines.  Some precarious footing.  \n\nYou need: Proper footwear.  Water and a snack. Backpacks and waist belts are helpful. \nYour Dog needs: Properly fitting harness\, flat leash\, water and snacks.  \nParking: Street-side in the park. Each class session stands on its own\, so they can be taken in any order! \nYou can either sign up for 1 session at a time or buy bundles of 4 or 6 at a time. Continue to come and learn new skills\, take on new challenges\, and your dog AND you will earn Merit Badges for your accomplishments along the way!
