DESCRIPTION:This session:\nHaskal Path/ The Ledge \n“The Ledge” is certainly a favorite of folks in the area\, however Trail Guide Tim has always enjoyed starting his run to the Ledge from the Haskal Path fire road! These paths are also favorites of motorized dirt bikes; and for good reason. Being full of dips and turns\, Haskal Path and it’s subsequent off-shoot trails offer a challenging adventure for sure! Expect about 4-5 miles of hiking on our standard adventure! \n**Adventures are held rain or shine.** \nTerrain: Very Rocky with some steep inclines and precarious declines. \nYou need: Proper footwear.  Water and a snack. DESCRIPTION:This session:\nHaskell Swamp Wildlife Management Area \nDirections are tricky for this! If you are coming off of 195\, head NORTH on North Street at the Mattapoisett Exit 19B. The small wooded lot will be on the RIGHT at ABOUT the drop pin location. There is a sign. \nAs you can tell from the directions\, this is a lesser known patch of swampy awesomeness! There are some nice logging roads\, and certainly some adventurous trekking\, especially if you are looking to avoid getting TOO wet out there. Be sure to bring thick socks\, waterproof boots\, BLAZE ORANGE (this is a Wildlife Management Area after all) and your Exploring Spirit! DESCRIPTION:This session: \nLittle River Reserve\n\nOne of our cornerstones of OutHounds Adventure and Training Academy’s mission is to be good stewards of the environment. As such\, we have begun to collaborate with our local land trusts\, and we are beyond excited to begin collaborating with the Dartmouth Natural Resource Trust. If you follow us on social media\, you know that we are frequent flyers on DNRT trails\, and we hope you will be too! Come join us twice this month on a beautiful DNRT property. What better way to kick off this collaboration by paying a visit to OHAC inaugural adventure (almost 5 years ago!): Little River Reserve! While the epic suspension bridge has been removed since then\, Little River is still an OHAC favorite. Varied terrain\, challenging footing and beautiful marsh views certainly makes this quite the Adventure! SUMMARY:Buzzards Bay Coalition Standard Adventure: The Bogs
DESCRIPTION:This session: \nThe Bogs\n\nThe Bogs has been a long time favorite destination for the Adventure Club\, and it is even more exciting now that OHAC is collaborating with the Buzzards Bay Coalition! The predominantly flat and open trails are great for the beginning hiker\, yet the beauty can be appreciated by all! Adventure Guide Tim does like to lead the group into the forest trail\, which does boast a mild incline and some tricky footing\, depending on the flood stage of the subsequent swamp. Although\, even if we have to double back or risk the dryness of our socks\, we always have a great time out here. (Check out our pictures from the spring!) This a great trail for just getting yourself (and your dog!) OUT and reconnecting with nature. DESCRIPTION:This session: \nSimmons Pond\n\nJoin us for some true holiday spirit\, at one of our favorite Adventure hikes: Simmons Pond and the “hidden” Christmas Tree Forest. See what happens when nature takes over. It is truly breathtaking! \n\nSimmons Pond is certainly one of OHAC’s favorite Adventures. We suppose any tenderly cared for oasis that boasts tree cookies\, 30 hidden birdhouses\, trail magic\, history lessons\, and a sense of deep pride in a community’s land trust is worthy of “favorite” designation! Path’s here are wide and welcoming with minimal inclines. Parts of the trail can get not only muddy\, but completely flooded–although this tends to be a Springtime occurrence. DESCRIPTION:This session: \nThe Bogs\n\nThe Bogs has been a long time favorite destination for the Adventure Club\, and it is even more exciting now that OHAC is collaborating with the Buzzards Bay Coalition! The predominantly flat and open trails are great for the beginning hiker\, yet the beauty can be appreciated by all! Adventure Guide Tim does like to lead the group into the forest trail\, which does boast a mild incline and some tricky footing\, depending on the flood stage of the subsequent swamp. Although\, even if we have to double back or risk the dryness of our socks\, we always have a great time out here. (Check out our pictures from the spring!) This a great trail for just getting yourself (and your dog!) OUT and reconnecting with nature. DESCRIPTION:This Session: Cornell Farm\nRepeat Adventurers will be familiar with part of this trail\, as DNRT’s Little River Reserve was our inaugural adventure! This time\, however\, we will be beginning our adventure on the other end of the reserve on Trustee’s of the Reservations Cornell Farm. The Farm portion is a predominantly flat trail which can become VERY muddy in the beginning in rain or thaw. Starting at Pier 3 on the New Bedford waterfront\, we will follow the Trail as meticulously curated by the New Bedford Historical Society. DESCRIPTION:This session: \nRidge Hill\n\nRidge Hill will live in OHAC lore for all time as our second ever hike brought quite the adventure! One of the neighborhood cattle made one of their all to frequent trips out of his paddock and down to the Ridge Hill parking lot just as we were shoving off! As we said then\, sometimes you seek adventure and sometimes adventure finds you! \nRidge Hill also happens to be one of Adventure Tadhg’s favorite DNRT trails\, but don’t advertise that too much or else everyone will start going there! Let’s save this gem for the Adventure Club! Path’s here are well cared for by volunteers and offer a little challenge for everyone. There are some steeper inclines and some rocks and roots that make for some tricky footing (especially closer to the reservoir). SUMMARY:Standard Adventure: Swansea Village Park
DESCRIPTION:This session: \nSwansea Village Park\n\nSVP is an Adventure Club favorite as it provides both natural and man made obstacles for both our 4-legged and 2-legged OutHounds. The Park is frequented by mountain bikers and NEMBA members have built various equipment that gives our four-legged adventure partners opportunities to practice typical Canine Agility skills such as seesaws\, narrow bridges and climbing walls! Mother Nature hasn’t done a bad job either with all of the pudding stone and large outcroppings that gives the adventurous and sure-footed a view of the treetops. As always\, not every obstacle is for everyone and no one is forced to make choices they aren’t comfortable with! However\, even if you aren’t making the minor climbs\, the ground can be slick and root covered. Who knew that all of this was behind the Swansea Library! Expect about 4-5 miles of hiking on our standard adventure!\n\n\n**Adventures are held rain or shine.** \nTerrain: Can be quite rocky and rooted. There opportunities for real Adventuring and Bouldering. DESCRIPTION:This session: \n\nSlocum River Reserve \n\nDNRT’s Slocum River Reserve offers beautiful farm views of the Slocum River with gentle slopes and only a couple moments of precarious footing. This is a hidden gem\, often less trafficked than the more popular Destruction Brook up the road. The Standard Adventure will be guided along mainly the perimeter of the Reserve\, with a guided path through a hunting zone. Be sure to wear your blaze orange! Ticks can be heavy here\, please use spray.  \n**Adventures are held rain or shine.** \nTerrain: Mostly flat\, Some street-side walking. \n\nYou need: Proper footwear.  Water and a snack.
